The Florida Powerboat Club in an effort to raise funds for the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund is set to host an unusual poker competition this weekend.
The Fort Lauderdale Land & Sea Poker Run Challenge will involve motorized transportation in virtually all of its forms. The Poker Run Challenge, open to all drivers and/or boaters, is intended for powerboats, automobiles, hot rods and motorcycles.
Contestants will pay a $100 per individual or team entry fee for the right for cash and prizes totaling more than $10,000. Each participant in the Challenge will be given a route, either by land or by water, which specifies a list of restaurants at which contestants must make a stop.
At each locale, the participants will receive a sealed envelope with a playing card. The idea of the challenge is to visit as many places as possible between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM at locations ranging from North Miami Beach to Deerfield Beach. The more cards a contestant can collect, the better their chances are of coming up with a winning poker hand.
Anyone interested in the event may still register online at www.flpowerboat.com or at the Poker Run Village at any time after noon on Friday. The charitable event also has a kickoff party and auction Friday evening and an awards party scheduled for Saturday.
