Poker Now a Clean Sport

Whereas poker was once equated with dark and dingy, smoke-filled rooms, the current poker craze and the television coverage for the sport has elevated poker from its once dismal reputation.

The acceptance of the game as a sport has led to a new thought about those who play the game. Though previously seen as rooted in some seedy underworld, the game has now become a popular and acceptable choice for even professional men. Of course the game is still a form of gambling and players are at risk to lose their shirts if not their pocketbooks as they ante up and declare that they will raise their counterparts as the game slides around the table. But today, we are just as likely to see actors and actresses, even sports figures, as part of a celebrity poker table along with some of the game’s most legendary figures. But even though those heavy-hitters have the former underworld look to them, the supervision and the diplomatic play seen on television give everyone an impression contrary to those underworld games that might have ended in violence if not an empty wallet.

Furthermore, many of the televised games come from exotic destinations in some of the most exclusive casinos in the world, casinos with the appearance of a hotel only for the very well to do. Combine the excitement of the game itself, the high end locales and the ever-present desire to see at least someone have the potential to win a cash jackpot that could change that person’s life forever and it is not any wonder that poker has become one of the World’s most enjoyable, and now one of its cleanest sports.
